Description
In folk magic, many believe a mercury dime brings money luck and provides protection for the carrier. Despite its tiny size, considered one of the most beautiful coins ever minted in the United States. It is known as a powerful and widely respected magical necessity.
Many savvy gamblers will not play unless they have one in their pocket.
The coin is thought to have the ability to counteract curses and hexes...and believed to have the power to repel evil, magical and psychic attacks.
People occasionally drill holes in them to wear around the ankle or throat, or simply carry in one's pocket or wallet. This one has NOT been tampered with so you can alter it or not as you choose. This coin has been part of Grandma's personal collection for decades and kept in a safe place. Prior to that, it was obviously in circulation and therefore well versed in financial matters.
Grandma takes cleanliness seriously. This coin has been well cleaned and buffed with a soft cloth.
Mercury dimes are highly symbolic. The reverse side has a fasces bundle of wooden rods with axe and olive branches. These are symbolic of unity, power, strength, peace. The head is not actually the Roman god Mercury, but rather an artist's (Adolph A. Weinman) depiction of lady liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. The wings represent freedom of the mind, liberty of thought.
Interesting that Mercury is the god of commerce, communication, and guardian of the crossroads; also the god of trickery.
This dime is a genuine 90% silver coin. See photos for condition. Most of the details are visible, but it has been circulated.
Mercury dimes were struck by the United States mint only from 1916 - 1945 and are of 90% silver content. They are very popular and becoming increasingly rare.
You are purchasing the actual coin in the photos. Red velvet drawstring pouch included for making mojo bag, or safekeeping or gifting.
